Certified Gambling Recovery Mentor (CGRM) | This course is 40 hours total, 20 hours self-paced (workbook, online) and 20 hours together in a virtual online classroom where we can interact and apply our lived experience with gambling recovery to problem gambling peer mentoring skills; topics include peer competencies, problem gambling knowledge, communication, building relationships with peers, mentoring, advocacy, values, and working in the peer field. The class is for anyone with two years of documented gambling recovery (including CRM's, PSS's, and THW's) wanting to become a CGRM. Individuals must have two years of documented gambling recovery themselves; the class is not meant for impacted others. Indviduals can apply for CGRM through MHACBO. This is a required course for the CGRM-Certified Gambling Recovery Mentors credential and offers 40 CEU's / class hours. |
Problem Gambling 101 For Peers | Peers working in mental health and substance use disorders often observe gambling challenges within their clients. Completing this class enables an agency to bill medicaid for problem gambling peer services if the agency is an OHA Approved Integrated Co-Occuring Disorder (ICD) Program or an OHA contracted PG treatment provider submitting to PG Net. The class provides a basic overview of problem gambling peer skills and highlights overcoming stigma, financial elements, the gambling cycle, and brain functioning. This class is for peers (CRM's, PSS, THW) wanting to improve their skills in serving folks experiencing gambling harm. It is also a required course for designated PG Peer Specialists working in an OHA approved Intergrated Co-Occuring Disorder (ICD) Program. The course is not for becoming a CGRM, which requires taking the 40-hour CGRM course. This is a required course for ICD and THW/PSS/CRM Gambling Specialization and offers 16 CEU's / class hours. (Note, before 2024, this course was 8 hours.) |
Ethics for Gambling Peers | This course discusses real-life case studies and scenarios that problem gambling peers encounter on the job. It covers MHACBO Code of Conduct, Ethics Agreement, HIPAA, CFR 42, Duty to Warn, and Informed Consent as it relates to providing peer services in gambling disorder. Class participants will learn both the regulations and how to make ethical choices when there is ambiguity (and there often is!). This class is for CGRM's seeking recertification (every 2 years). The course is not required by MHACBO but 6 hours of addiction/behavioral healthcare ethics is and this class is recommended. Anyone wanting more experience with the ethics of working with folks experiencing gambling challenges and / or anyone who has taken PG 101 for Peers will find this a valuable course. |
Problem Gambling Peer Practice | This course is a deep dive into specific problem gambling peer skills. The class covers sports and online gambling, introduces apps, shares other effective resources, and practices skills addressing challenging scenarios. Peers should come prepared with a challenging "what would you do" real life case study. This course is for CGRM's seeking recertification (every 2 years) and for anyone wanting more experience working with folks experiencing gambling challenges. It is also recommended for anyone who has taken PG 101 for Peers. This course will be held in Spring 2025, but is not yet currently scheduled. Follow us to be notified of upcoming classes. |
